This is the story of great Maratha Peshwa, 'Peshwa Bajirao Ballal'. History knows him as Peshwa Bajirao Ballal.

But people lovingly address him as 'Rau'. His short life from August 1700 to April 1740, proved to be a great life.

Bajirao took the Maratha empire to such heights, that it made its own mark in history. He was born in a Marathi Brahmin family. His father Balaji Vishwanath, was the first Peshwa of Chatrapati Shahu. And his mother was Radhabai. Bajirao Saheb even had a younger brother. His name was Chimmaji Appa. This able warrior would accompany his father in fights. And when Peshwa Vishwanath passed away in 1720, then 20-year-old Rau was made a Peshwa. Since a young man was appointed as Peshwa. several senior members were cross.

On one hand, the Nizam was increasing his empire. On the other hand, the Mughals were losing their grip.

This was the time when Chatrapati Shahu Maharaj was ruling from Satara, Maharashtra. Peshwa Bajirao came and Pune was made the capital. Bajirao Peshwa fought 40 battles and he won all of them. This event is also famous when Mohammed Khan Bangash attacked, Bundelkhand's king Chatrasaal in December 1728.

Then, Bajirao was busy in the area of Malwa. But when he was requested help he went to help king Chatrasaal. Peshwa Bajirao did the impossible with his cunning warfare tactics. Chatrasaal got back Bundelkhand. And then, the story of Bajirao Mastani started.

Bajirao was first married to Kashibai. He had 2 sons from this marriage. Nana Sahib and Raghunath Rao. later, Nana Sahib became a Peshwa as Balaji Bajirao. And he then married with Mastani, daughter of king Chatrasaal. He also made the Mastani Mahal for Mastaani. His first wife, mother and other people used to live in Shaniwar Vada where Mastani was not allowed.

History says that the family didn't accept Mastaani. And Bajirao had a son from his second wedding. He was named Krishna Rao who later became famous as Shamsher Bahadur. Even Shamsher Bahadur fought bravely with other brave Maratha warriors in the battle of Panipat. Shamsher Bahadur died at the age of 27.

But when we look at Peshwa Bajirao's life then he seems to be really inspiring.

He died at the age of 39. It was being said that after defeating the Nizam and the Mughals, he had gone to the district of Khargone, near Indore with 1 lakh soldiers. He fell ill here. And he died in Raverkhedi, which is close to the river Narmada. After Peshwa Bajirao Rao passed away his second wife Mastani also died within a few days. And his first wife Kashibai raised Mastani and Peshwa Bajirao's son, Shamsher Bahadur as her own.

Dhirubhai Desai made a film in this story in 1955. It was called Mastani'. Even a Marathi serial was made called 'Rau' in 1990. And in 2015 even Sanjay Leela Bhansali made the film 'Bajirao Mastani'. And here Ranveer Singh played Peshwa Bajirao. Deepika Padukone played Mastani. And Priyanka Chopra played Kashibai.

All these films and serials can only show us a part of history. Not the entire history.

People will forget these films. But great warrior Bajirao will be remembered for eras.
